Star Trek tops US box office

The new Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond, has topped the US box office this week, raking in $59.6m in its first week of release and knocking off the Universal Studios animation, The Secret Life Of Pets from the top spot.

The new Star Trek reboot is the third film since director JJ Abrams took the helm in 200 although that movie took $20m more in its first week of release.

The new Ghostbusters reboot which topped the charts last week, fell to No.3, taking in $21.6m, tying for third place with the Warner Bros low-budget horror Lights Out.

Fox Studios' new animation Ice Age: Collision Course was in fifth place with takings of $21m.
