Melissa McCarthy comedy tops US box office

Melissa McCarthy's new comedy movie The Boss has toppled Batman V Superman from the top spot at the US box office this week, earning £16.53m it its opening weekend.

The film is directed by McCarthy's husband Ben Falcone atlhough it wasn't greeted enthusiastically by the critics upon release.

In the movie McCarthy stars as a businesswoman trying to rebuild her life after a spell in prison for insider trading.

The movie pushed Baltman V Superman to the No.2 spot although the blockbuster has now earned $783m worldwide but may fall short of the magic $1bn mark that producers were hoping for. However, the movie

has already become the highest-grossing superhero film of 2016 so far, overtaking previous chart-topper, Deadpool starring ryan Reynolds.

Meanwhile new Disney animation Zootopia slipped one place to No.3, taking in $14m over the weekend, taking the movie's total haul to $296m.

Comedy sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 dropped one place to fourth in its third weekend of release with a haul of $6.4m, and a total of $46.7m.
